Our New Chapter: A Home Full of Love, Memories, and Accessibility
Hello My People! Happy New Year!
2024 was a wonderful year, and one of the biggest highlight for me was that we bought a house!
Some moments are etched into your soul forever. For me, one of those moments was when I received the call that our offer on a house—a house we could call home—had been accepted.
I remember exactly where I was. I was filming with Leah, one of my favorite photographers, when my phone rang. It was our realtor. With shaky hands and a racing heart, I picked up, only to hear the words I had been longing for: “Your offer was accepted.” Leah captured the moment on camera, and even now, I replay it in my mind, grateful for the tangible proof of a dream coming true.
But this wasn’t just about the house; it was about the journey.
From Waiting to Walking in Faith
Years ago, we were house hunting, eagerly trying to tick it off our list. I’ll admit—I barely involved God in the process back then. I was in a rush, trying to make it happen in my time, but nothing worked out. Disappointment after disappointment piled up until I finally let go.
Then, on my birthday last year, I did something different. I prayed. I mean truly prayed. I thanked God for the blessings we already had—our family, our health, our love—and then I asked for a house. Not just any house, but one that would meet our family’s needs: single-story, budget-friendly, with space for the kids and the accessibility I require as a wheelchair user.
I even wrote out a list. Detailed, down to the negotiables, and prayed over it. Quietly, I kept that list in my heart, sharing it only with my husband months later during a vision board session.
As the year progressed, it seemed impossible. Nothing was aligning. By August 23rd, I had almost given up hope. But on my birthday—August 24th—our realtor sent a listing. And it wasn’t just any listing. It matched my list almost perfectly.
We saw the house the very next day and knew instantly: this was it.
A New Beginning, Rooted in Gratitude
After years of living in an apartment that we made our home, saying goodbye was bittersweet. That space was imperfect, yes, but it held so many beautiful memories. It’s where our son Zuma took his first steps, where we celebrated birthdays, and where I worked tirelessly to build my brand as a creator.
The brown cabinets I never replaced, the rugs that never stayed clean, and the microwave I could barely reach—all these quirks became part of the charm of a place we loved deeply.
Now, we’re stepping into a new chapter, carrying those memories with us but ready to create new ones. This house is more than walls and a roof; it’s a testament to God’s faithfulness, to patience, and to letting go of control so He can work His miracles.
Making This House a Home
Our new house isn’t perfect—yet. It needs updates to make it wheelchair accessible, and there have been product delays and renovation hiccups that have tested my patience. But every challenge reminds me of how far we’ve come and how worth it this journey is.
We’ve started adding personal touches, from installing accessible features like a padded shower seat to picking out the perfect matte black finishes for the kitchen. Each decision feels like another step toward turning this house into a reflection of our family’s love and needs.
As I look around, I’m filled with gratitude for the village that has supported us along the way. From your encouraging messages to thoughtful gifts off our registry, your kindness has been overwhelming. This is a house built not just on prayers but also on the love of our community.
To Anyone Still Waiting
If you’re in your own waiting season, I want you to know this: don’t rush it. Trust the process. Make your current space beautiful for you. And keep the faith alive, because when it happens—when your dream becomes your reality—you’ll see that it was all in perfect timing.
Now, we’re here. New house, new memories, new beginnings. This Christmas, we’ll celebrate not just a change of address but the culmination of prayers answered and dreams fulfilled.
Here’s to this next chapter—one filled with love, growth, and accessibility. Thank you for being part of our journey. 💛
