Adaptive Fashion that Fits: Jamey Perry for JCPenney Collection

When I had my car accident in 2008, my life changed in countless ways. I sustained a spinal cord injury that left me using a wheelchair, and adapting to this new reality was a journey full of unexpected challenges. One of the hardest parts? Finding clothes that not only looked good but were functional for a seated lifestyle.

As a disabled woman, I’ve spent years trying to make mainstream fashion work for me. High-waisted pants would bunch up, long sleeves would get caught in my wheels, and dresses that looked perfect on the hanger just didn’t fit right while seated. I started my blog to share these struggles and show that wheelchair users love fashion too—we just need it to work for us.

So when I heard about the Jamey Perry for JCPenney collection, I felt a wave of excitement and hope. This wasn’t just another adaptive line; it was created by Jamey Perry, a fellow wheelchair user and athlete who understands the unique fashion needs we have. This collection almost feels like it was designed by someone who truly gets it because that’s exactly what it is.

The collection includes 18 styles ranging from dress slacks and blouses to cocktail outfits. Each piece is thoughtfully designed with features like well-placed zippers, shorter sleeves to prevent interference with wheels, and extended back rises for seated comfort. The fabric choices are soft and breathable, minimizing the risk of skin irritation, which is a constant concern for those of us who sit all day.

For years, I’ve waited for fashion that didn’t force me to choose between looking good and feeling good. Clothes that don’t just “work,” but truly *work for me.* And now, with this collection, it feels like the fashion industry is finally starting to listen to us. The launch of the collection during the Runway of Dreams show at New York Fashion Week was a powerful moment, showcasing that adaptive fashion can be just as stylish and sophisticated as any other line out there.

Jamey Perry herself said it best: “Women like me want to look great and feel great, and we also need clothes that fit our lives”.

This collection is proof that you can have both—style and function without compromise.

To all my fellow disabled fashion lovers out there: this one’s for us. I hope this collection inspires you to embrace your style and know that you don’t have to settle for less anymore. We deserve clothes that are as beautiful and dynamic as we are. Check out the Jamey Perry for JCPenney collection and see what it feels like to finally wear fashion that truly fits.
