I Broke a Nail... And I Fixed It...

Hello Darlings!!!

It's been a little while since my last post on the blog because life got busy. I hope y'all are doing mighty fine though... Facebookers saw a bit more of me, so join us on there if you suffer from complete withdrawal.. lol...

Today, I have a DIY kinda-tutorial for fixing a broken nail.
Yep, You're gonna learn to Fake it, till you make it!!!

This tutorial is nothing fancy but definitely a good remedy for broken nails.
When I broke my nail, I was like... *Home alone face*.. "OH NOOOOOO".
Then I decided not to cry over spilt milk, and went to the drawing board!

Here are my nails after I fixed the broken one. Can you tell which one was broken??? (Keep your answer in mind and answer honestly in the comment box). :-D

Anyhoo, After my nail broke, I remembered how I used to have long nails before I realized my own nails could actually grow on their own.
Here's a picture of my broken nail after I filed it (Pinky). This time, I soooo wasn't willing to file down the rest of my nails. I'm loving my nails at this length, and I have swatches and reviews to do... and I want good looking nails to showcase them. lol...

The breakage sure was really low, and I'm sure you know uneven nails don't look cute in pictures. So I whipped out an old set of fake nail I bought way way way before I got really into this polish/blogging frenzy. I was so happy I kept this box. I got it at walmart for about $6 if my memory serves me right.
Next to it, I bought Krazy Glue because the glues that comes with the fake nails just don't work! The adhesive on them expires too quickly and you start finding fake nails all over your house instead of on your nails. Lol...

Then, Mama Got busy. I picked out a fake nail that fit my broken pinky nails perfectly. Set it aside, and  applied some Krazy Glue on my real nails, and on the fake nail. I immediately and carefully placed it inside my cuticle line, so that it doesn't look "fake". Press and Hold For about 2 minutes.
Here's the result.

I then filed it so that it isn't so long, and looks like the rest of my nails... Here's the result...

Then, of course, since I can't possibly be spotting one extremely white nail, and other real nails, I had to cover it all with Nail Polish.
For this mani, I chose to use one of my untrieds, Sinful Colors - Amethyst.
Look ma!! No one knows I'm wearing fake nails!!! Lol...
Sinful Colors - Amethyst.

Okay truthfully, If You stare for a while, you'll probably see that my pinky is slightly "raised" because of the fake nail, but if I didn't tell you they were fake, you wouldn't know.. right? I'm happy with the result, and that's it for my simple DIY Fake nail tutorial. No need to deal with acrylics,. or cry because your nails broke.
These fake nails don't mess up your original nails like acrylics do, and overtime, the glue will wear off, so you don't have to "Yank it out" and mess up your real nails.
This sure is a clean and nice easy way to have cute and even nails while still letting your broken nail grow.

Have you ever Faked it till you made it? - Nail-wise of course. ;-)

Till Later, God Bless.

  1. This is a really good way to fix a nail. Never tired it before. I usually use the tea bag method.

    1. It's easy and quick. Never tried the tea bag method, but I've seen it done before. :-)

  2. I honestly couldn't tell. I actually like the fake nails (glue on variety)... I have acrylics on now, and since they're growing out but I don't want to fill them they look a bit ridiculous.

    1. yay! Success if you couldn't tell.

I swore off acrylics, cos they make nails so thin. And as you said, when your real nails start growing, the sight isn't so pretty. Lol...

Overall, I prefer my real nails, and I take pride in them, but when one choose to break like this, I usually just file the rest down.

This time however, I was like.. Nuh uhh.. Gonna fake it. lol..

  3. I know I have "faked" it! I try not to let my nails get to long because of breakage. Nothing worse than having a nail be the peg leg of the bunch! LOL

    1. bahahaha... I refuse to let my mind go in the gutter Tini. Lol.. I hope you were talking about nails.. ;-)

And Oh yeah, I totally understand the length and breakage thing... I don't think I want my nails longer than this. But ever since I allowed them to get to this length, I have been having a hard time going back to my short nails. :-D

  7. I was going to say it was the middle finger, just from personal experience, but I never would have guessed it was your pinky. I have those fake nails too. I don't mind the glue so much. The fake nail pops off, rather than tearing my real nail along with it,which is what used to happen with acrylics.

    1. yeah these nails usually just pop off unlike acrylics. That's why I prefer them. :-)

  9. lol. I'm not sure why but I sang your post title to the tune of Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl. Hahaha. I guess I need to sleep asap. Anyway, great tip (no pun intended) about the broken nail. I'll definitely buy fake nails now just in case mine broke too.

    1. HEY!!! I love you! Let's be friends!! hahahaha... I too was singing the Katy Perry song, and it was kinda how I got the title of the post. I kept thinking of a title, and suddenly this one came to me. Lol...I didn't want to write it in the post because the song isn't really a favorite of mine, and I have no idea how I started singing it. lol....

Anyhoo... I'm still LOL because you r singing it too. lol...

You should definitely have some fake nails in case something like this happens. Gone are the 'cutting them all down' days. lol.. except of course you want to.

  10. Honestly... I thought pinky... but certainly not because you didn't do a fantastic job. I just noticed the slight variation in shape next to your real nails. Nicely done, though, great save! And I do like that purple. :)
